Presidents Report

It’s been a great golf season so far. Bobby and his crew are doing an excellent job and I have heard several great comments on the condition of course. Thanks Bobby for all of your hard work.

We still can’t forget what makes this course successful, golfers other than members. We need more groups, leagues, and individuals coming out to have a good time.  Please talk to others about having tournaments for their businesses or family events and encourage others to come and play so we can increase our revenues.  We cannot operate the club on members only.  The course is in great shape and people will enjoy playing it.

I want to also thank Holzer Clinic and AEP for sponsoring our Junior Golf Camp.  It is a great way for the youth to learn how to play golf properly. It keeps them busy during the summer months and without these companies support it would be very hard to run this type of program.

The board meetings are on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month.  Please feel free to stop in with any suggestions or comments you have. We take guests comments first and you do not have to stay for the entire meeting if you do not want to.

I would also like to thank Toler and Toler Insurance for sponsoring this month’s newsletter.

By-Laws & Newsletter

Driving Range: We are currently searching for a contractor to bid on stump removal for the clearing of the range. Anyone wishing to volunteer to work or who knows someone who will donate a bulldozer please contact me.

Bylaws: We will be drafting a new proposal for a new membership classification so that current or prospective members who live a considerable distance from Cliffside can join for a discounted rate.  This will be voted on at the upcoming annual meeting in October. If there are any questions, contact me as soon as possible.

Grounds Committee

I hope everyone is enjoying this season of golf and also the great conditions of our course. Notice that some of the no-mow areas have been cut back to make it a little more golfer friendly. This came from suggestions from some of the members.  Also, I would like to thank Joe Liberatore for getting several steel I-beams donated to our club.

Junior Golf

We have kicked off another season of golf instruction for the Junior players in the area. Any youth between the age of 6 and 17 are welcome to attend and learn the proper etiquette for golfing and get instruction on how to swing the clubs correctly. I would like to thank Bowman’s driving range for letting us use the range and AEP and Holzer Clinic for sponsoring the event.  The schedule for the next several weeks will be as follows:

                  July 18th and 25th – Cliffside Golf Club - 9:00 am

The July 4th golf tournament will be at 3:00 pm.  We will play a scramble and then have dinner and go up on tee boxes 8 or 9 and watch the fireworks that evening. We had a great time last year and are looking forward to another great event.

Sports and Pastimes

We will be having our 1st Annual 2 Man Best Ball Golf Tournament at Cliffside on August 5th and 6th.   The intent is to draw outside players onto the course and give them an opportunity to play and then come back at a later time with other golfers to enjoy the course. This should give us additional income in the future and players will be looking forward to coming back to play every year.  The tournament includes one practice round of golf and two days of golf on Saturday and Sunday. Carts will be additional.  Participates will be flighted by their first days scores. There will be 8 teams per flight with the exception of the championship flight which will have a maximum of 16 players.  Prizes will be awarded in each flight. I would like to thank Toler and Toler Insurance for suggesting the tournament and providing prize money to get it started. It will be a good event for the course each and every year.

I also want to thank Chris Toler for organizing the SEOGA qualifying rounds and keeping track of all of the scores.  You did a great job.
